Help Fatemh, Displaced Mother from Gaza
United States
My name is Julia, and I am fundraising for Fatemh Al-Zahraa Abdel Haq, a 40 year old mother of 5 children from Gaza who is experiencing unimaginable trauma admist the ongoing US-Israeli genocide.
A week before October 7th, Fatemh travelled to Cairo, Egypt with her mother to accompany her for medical treatment. Due to the bombardment of Gaza following Oct. 7, Fatemh was unable to return to Gaza and her family.
On October 9th 2023 her family was forcefully evacuated from their home in North Gaza (Sheikh Radwan). Soon after relocating to the south, their home in North Gaza was bombed and reduced to rubble (see photo).
Like many children in Gaza, her son Saleem began documenting his life under bombardment and appealing to the world / the internet for help. The following is testimony from Saleem on February 12th 2024, who was 8 years old at the time:
“My name is Saleem Anwar Badawar. I am 8 years old. I was a distinguished student in the Al-Arqam Schools, and I moved to the agency for the second grade. I was living in Gaza under Sheikh Radwan, but I emigrated with my family on October 9th to Deir Al-Balah. We think we will go to Al-Dair for 2 days and then return home, everyone has a bag on his back, there is only one piece of clothing – I wish I could take my toys with me. I wish to see my mother before the war. A week ago, my mother went to Egypt to treat my grandmother, but the war came and I couldn’t see her, nor could she come to us.”
Fatemh tried multiple times to return to Gaza but was unable to due to issues at the Rafah border. Separated from her 5 children who were under military bombardment, she was in agony. Eventually she was able to acquire a loan for $8,000 and, in March 2024, was able to evacuate Saleem (7 at the time); Yara (14 at the time), and Omar (2 at the time). At this time, it was possible for Palestinains in Gaza to evacuate across the Rafah border into Egypt, if they had funds.
For over a year and a half Fatemh has been separated from her husband and two of her children, who remain displaced in Gaza under depraved and dire conditions, having experienced over 600 days of US-Israeli genocide. They are currently sharing a room with relatives in a home in Deir al-Balah.
In addition to extremely limited food and water supplies; according to the Euro-Med Rights Monitor, Israel has dropped more than 25,000 tonnes of explosives on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, equivalent to more than three nuclear bombs — over 95% of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed.
The initial goal for this fundraiser if $10,000. The funds will be used to pay of Fatemh’s $8,000 evacuation debt and help Fatemh with the basic costs for survival as a refugee in Cairo (ie; food, rent, debts, secuing medications for her elderly mother.)
If enough funds are raised and if her family survives, the eventual goal is to evacuate the rest of her family once the border reopens.
Please consider helping this family. Fatemh is in agony every waking moment of her life, while her husband and children are stuck in Gaza. Can you imagine caring for 3 children as a refugee in a foreign country while the rest of your family could die at any moment in a concentration camp under siege and relentless carpet bombing?
Fatemh has kindly sent the following messages for anyone reading this:
“All I need is to see my children and my husband. We are very tired. It is nice to see people like you who care about my problem. I hope that our voice will reach more people.”
Your support keeps hope alive for Fatemh and her children, and it is greatly appreciated.
*please note: this family has been thoroughly verified. The initial goal for this fundraiser if $10,000. The funds will be used to pay of Fatemh’s $8,000 evacuation debt and help support Fatemh with the basic costs for survival as a refugee in Cairo (ie; food, rent, debts, secuing medications for her elderly mother.)
